Joshua M. Davis - Dick Thornburgh Prize for Legal Service - 2019
During Law School Joshua Davis worked at Neighborhood Legal Services on landlord-tenant cases. He has interviewed, advised, and assisted over fifty low-income tenants facing eviction from both private and subsidized housing. This experience afforded Mr. Davis the opportunity to litigate on behalf of many of those tenants at Magisterial District Courts and in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.
As a native to the Pittsburgh area, Joshua has witnessed the city's technological and economic transformation. Although this development has had significant benefits for the city, there have been serious housing-related consequences as well. Serving as an advocate for those in need with Neighborhood Legal Services work with low-income residents gives some control back to those who otherwise would not have an option.
Joshua plans to dedicate himself to public interest and legal service work throughout his legal career.
Congratulations, Joshua!
Message from the Governor
The Forum was established at the late Dick Thornburgh’s Law School alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh. In connection with the Dick Thornburgh Papers held by the University's Hillman Library, the Forum reflects his experiences in public life. It is in intended to foster discourse on issues vital to the preservation of our democratic system and the Rule of Law upon which that system depends.
Special thanks are due to Chancellor Emeritus Mark Nordenberg who serves as the Director of the Dick Thornburgh Forum and has been unstinting in support of this effort since its inception. In addition, many others have provided time, resources and dedication to this undertaking.
