Mr. Marco Attisano began his career in public service the day after his high school graduation by joining the United States Navy. After serving six years between active and reserve duty, and upon graduation from college, he worked with his community through the AmeriCorps program serving the low-income elderly homeowners throughout the City of Pittsburgh. Upon completing his AmeriCorps commitment, he entered the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. In the spring of his first year in law school, he began his role helping others as a legal intern and volunteering over 150 hours at the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office, where he was promoted to a full-time position as a legal assistant to the Homicide Unit.

It means more to me than any other award I could receive upon graduation because it cuts right to the core of who I am and what I value. My ideal citizenship is based on the idea that every citizen in a democratic society has a duty to use his unique gifts and talents in a way that not only improves his own life, but also improves the lives of his fellow citizens.
