“Assistive Technology is a Form of Advocacy”

Dr. Rory Cooper is a champion for those who rely on assistive technology needs.  Cooper was paralyzed in 1980 and has devoted himself to advancing assistive technology forward by inventing and improving the products people with disabilities rely on and enlightening the public’s awareness of their needs. If you use a wheelchair or any other sort of assistive technology, the chances are extremely high that he has had some direct or indirect influence on its design.

Dr. Cooper and his team at the University of Pittsburgh Human Engineering Research Laboratories work to improve the well-being of individuals of the change that living with a disability brings. This team provides innovative solutions for individuals with disabilities who need assistive technology for mobility, manipulation, cognition, and other everyday needs to bridge independence and the opportunity to live life to the fullest.
