David R. Coogan | The Dick Thornburgh Forum for Law & Public Policy

Mr. Coogan is the recipient of the 2014 J. Evans Rose, Jr. Prize for Public Service. David began his career in public service as a Marine Corps. intelligence officer serving in combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan prior to attending Law School. During law school, he worked as a student intern in the U.S. Attorney's office, a judicial intern for Judge Lisa Pupo Lenihan, served the local veterans community through the creation of the Pitt Law Veterans Legal Practicum, interned with the Southwestern Pennsylvania Legal Services Association and volunteered for Big Brothers and Sisters. David plans to continue this career path as a Marine Corps. Judge Advocate.

Governor Thornburgh

The Dick Thornburgh Forum for Law & Public Policy was established in 2007 at the late Dick Thornburgh’s Law School alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh. In conjunction with the Dick Thornburgh Papers held by the University's Hillman Library, the Forum reflects Dick's lifelong work in public service. The Forum is in intended to foster discourse on issues vital to the preservation of our democratic system and the Rule of Law upon which that system depends.
